Things to Consider
At this difficult time there are many things to consider… and things can feel quite overwhelming. When compiling the funeral stationery Order of Service, here are a few pointers as to what is included:
This needs to give your loved one looking at their best as this is probably one of the last services you will carry out. The image you choose is very important and we advise to use a current photo. Usually the name, birth and final dates are on the cover. The address of the service can be added to the front with the date and time of the funeral.
What is inside an Order of Service
Depending on your content you may choose 4 to 16 pages these include the order of the service i.e the order of what will happen at the memorial, including hymns, tributes, poems and any special messages.
Some families choose to have photos showing the persons life in pictures. This can be in double page spread or scattered around the order of service. You have 7 photos that are included in the price and then additional photos can be included at a small charge at £7.00 per photo.
The hymns that you would like included in the service, the words would appear in the order of service.
A eulogy is simply a speech about a loved one who has died. This speech is usually given during a memorial or funeral ceremony. While it is often given by a close friend or relative, it can also be given by a religious leader or someone taking the ceremony.
Don’t stress out over giving a eulogy. Think of it as a simple conversation with the family and friends about the life of the person who has died.
There is no “right way” to compose a eulogy.
Here are some things you may want to talk about:
- a brief “life history” of the person who has died
- important achievements and events in the deceased’s life
- details about family, friends, work, and hobbies
- favourite memories of the deceased
- most eulogies last between 5 and 15 minutes but there are no hard and fast rules here
Another consideration would be to include the persons hobbies and interest. This can be incorporated into the actual design of the printed Order of Service.
This is generally used to say thank you to your friends and family. Some families add the details of any afterservice gatherings or refreshment on the back cover. An alternative may be to have sayings, words or even a poem that may have been a favourite of the person that has died or even a collage of photographs.
